Exploration of Opportunities to Reduce Lead Times for Engineered-To-Order Products by Jan Alarik Elfving Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering-Civil and Environmental Engineering University of California, Berkeley Professor Iris D. Tommelein, Chair Scholars and practitioners have long advocated the benefits of reduced lead times. Moreover, most, if not all members of a supply chain would gain from reduced lead times. However, the construction industry has been slow to radically reduce lead times, particularly for Engineered-To-Order (ETO) products. This research applies Transformation-Flow-Value (TFV) theory and lean methods in order to answer the following research question: How can the performance of ETO supply chains be improved? Data were collected from supply chains of power distribution equipment (PDE). The supply chains were described with help of detailed process maps and performance measures. Simulation was applied to gain further understanding of

Reward, Risk and Ambiguity in Human Exploration: A Wheel of Fortune Task
In realistic environments, organisms are frequently faced with multiple resource alternatives, and must balance the tradeoff between pursuing the known options (exploitation), and searching the environment for unknown opportunities (exploration). Exploration can be most beneficial in the presence of environmental uncertainty when the range and benefits of all reward options are not fully known,...
متن کاملLot Streaming in No-wait Multi Product Flowshop Considering Sequence Dependent Setup Times and Position Based Learning Factors
This paper considers a no-wait multi product flowshop scheduling problem with sequence dependent setup times. Lot streaming divide the lots of products into portions called sublots in order to reduce the lead times and work-in-process, and increase the machine utilization rates. The objective is to minimize the makespan. To clarify the system, mathematical model of the problem is presented. Sin...
متن کاملManagement Strategies For Reduce the Consequences of Flood Hazard with the SWOT Analytical Method (Case Study: Hamedan- Bahar Plain)
Inadequate productivity and over-capacity of land in many watersheds and plains of the country, has increased flooding potential. Therefore, reducing flood damage with the participation of both policymakers and the public as key stakeholders in decision-making, planning, long-term management and foresight in decisions are unavoidable. In the present study, SWOT analytical method was used to ...
متن کاملDetermining Optimal Number of Suppliers in a Multiple Sourcing Model under Stochastic Lead Times
Employing more than one supplier and splitting orders between them is a strategy employed in supply chains to lessen the lead-time risk in unstable environments. In this paper we present a multiple-sourcing inventory system with stochastic lead-times and constant demand controlled by a continuous review, reorder point-order quantity inventory policy. We consider the situation in which the order...
متن کاملThe Impact of Economic Policies on the Equality of Educational Opportunities in Iran
Inequality, nowadays, is one of the main concerns in developmental plans and as a result expansion of basic opportunities and their fair distribution is a part and parcel of any roadmap to development. However, the economic policies of the country can inform any attempt in this regard. To estimate the extent to which such policies have impacted equal and timely access to education in Ir...
